Every Dollar Counts: Help Us Build Shade Canopies for Dogs!

When the new Glynn County Animal Services building was constructed, the land was cleared, leaving no shade for any of the areas that the dogs walk and play in. Last fall, we raised money to put in nine 15' Nuttal oak trees in the large walking area to provide shade. Now, we'd like to concentrate on the 8 play yards that the dogs spend the majority of their time in when not in their kennels.

Currently, there is either no shade (in 5 play yards), or minimal shade (in 3 play yards) provided by tarps that easily fall with minimal wind or rain. We have priced out several options from various companies and have come up with a solution that will be permanent, can withstand winds up to 90mph and can be taken down in the case of a major hurricane. These shades will be custom-made and cover half of each play yard so the dogs will have the option of being in the sun or shade. This will also make it more comfortable for those spending time in the play yards with the adoptable dogs they are getting to know!

With your help, we can raise the funds to get these shades ordered and installed before next spring when the hot Georgia sun starts bearing down on us again.

• Donations of $250 will have a plaque displayed on a regular kennel.
• Donations of $500 will have a plaque displayed on a double kennel.
• Donations of $6,000 will have a bench with engraved seat back put in a play yard or out in the walking field.
• Donations of $1,000 or more will be recognized with

  • a full page ad in the Brunswick News at the end of the campaign
